Nelson’s reputation as a food lover’s paradise is well deserved. Surrounded by beautiful ocean with a climate allowing almost anything to grow, there’s no shortage here of great ingredients for our restaurant and a fine range of local wines in the bar.
MEET THE CHIEF
Matt Bouterey’s been cooking since he was in shorts. Actually, that was only yesterday. A Michelin-trained chef, Matt has worked with some of the greats including Anthony Demetre, Gary Rhodes and Marco Pierre White.
COME MEET THE TEAM
We’re a small city that’s big on people. Our restaurant and bar staff are friendly, and passionate about food and we think they are awesome! Head Chef Riki Day, Restaurant Manager Zinnia Nichol-Foster
Our menu changes regularly with respect to what we are into at the moment, whether it’s an ingredient, band, chef or current event. Our goal is to make everyone feel like whanau (family) – whether it is your first or fortieth time. We believe that serving up good juju in a restaurant isn’t just in the food and drink, but in the attitude and atmosphere which will make Urban the perfect place to stop in and refuel. SUP FROM THE BAR
Aside from great craft beer by local brewery Golden Bear and a modest but outstanding wine list, we think we do a pretty mean cocktail. Somewhere in the world it’s cocktail hour.
FRESH IS BEST!!
Like to know where your produce comes from? Matt and Riki grow our herbs, harvest and pick our vege from local farms and serve them straight to you on the plate ... ya can't get better than that!
We have no reservations (groups please enquire), tables frequently turn over so you won’t be leaving unsatisfied! Feel free to share a table with some locals, or visitors for that matter. Eating is a sharing experience!
Thinking of visiting Nelson? Aside from great food and award-winning wine and beer producers, Nelson is also the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park, has a world-class Wearable Arts museum and is known for having some of the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand. Worth a trip soon then!
